Filipino Food Health Benefits #1

Malunggay. What is it and what are the benefits?

Chicken with Malunggay leaves is one of our more popular dishes here at Marilou's. People order it for a variety of reasons. They're battling a cold, having bad day, or might even just want a hearty meal.

The Malunggay tree is a long, skinny tree with small and dark, oval leaves. This tree does not require much maintenance. All parts of the tree can be used for soups, making teas, and even facial creams.

Malunggay has been shown to help normalize blood sugar levels thus preventing diabetes. Malunggay has also been used as a relaxant to aid in sleep. In comparison to bananas, Malunggay contains three times the amount of potassium found in bananas.

Here at Marilou's, we use the tree's delicious leaves for our soups and also our mongo beans upon request. With so many benefits, Malunggay is a definite hit so eat up and enjoy!
